Peggy is grafted onto different rootstocks to control the mature size of the tree. Each rootstock also provides different soil tolerances and resistance to diseases and pests.
Pyrus betulaefolia Standard
Mature height of 20-30' for asian and european pears.
Vigorous, hardy rootstock for pear trees, especially favored for Asian pears, known for its tolerance of diverse soils (heavy, wet, dry, alkaline) and resistance to fire blight and pear decline, producing larger, healthier trees and better yields, though it often results in a standard-sized tree rather than a dwarfed one.
