About Peggy

The Peggy Asian Pear is a standout russet variety prized for its exceptional crispness, rich sweetness, and remarkable cold storage life of up to 8 months. A limb mutation of Korean Giant (A-Ri-Rang), it ripens about 3–4 weeks earlier while delivering large, golden-russet fruit ready to enjoy straight from the tree. Grafted trees are available for spring bare-root shipping or local farm pickup.

Flavor Profile

Exceptionally crisp, juicy, and refreshingly sweet with a delicate floral aroma and fine-grained, firm texture.

Uses

Fresh eating, salads, cold storage (lasts up to 8 months in refrigeration), dehydrating/pear chips, canning, and baking.

Rootstock

Peggy is grafted onto different rootstocks to control the mature size of the tree. Each rootstock also provides different soil tolerances and resistance to diseases and pests.

Pyrus betulaefolia Standard

Mature height of 20-30' for asian and european pears.

Vigorous, hardy rootstock for pear trees, especially favored for Asian pears, known for its tolerance of diverse soils (heavy, wet, dry, alkaline) and resistance to fire blight and pear decline, producing larger, healthier trees and better yields, though it often results in a standard-sized tree rather than a dwarfed one.

Tree Sizes

Selecting the right tree size for your property is important. From large orchards to compact patios, we offer options to fit any growing space. At maturity, our trees fall into one of three size categories*:

Dwarf tree size

Dwarf

Reaches approximately 8-10 feet in height and spread. Perfect for limited spaces while still producing full-sized fruit in generous quantities.

Semi-Dwarf tree size

Semi-Dwarf

Grows to roughly 12-15 feet tall and wide. Offers excellent fruit production for its footprint, and most harvesting can be done without a ladder.

Standard tree size

Standard & Unmarked

Typically reaches 18 feet or more at maturity. Ideal for those wanting both abundant fruit harvests and natural shade coverage.
