About Yoinashi Asian Pear

The Yoinashi is a large, golden-brown russeted variety prized for its crisp, fine-grained flesh and a complex, aromatic sweetness often described as having distinct butterscotch or brandy undertones. Meaning "good pear" in Japanese, this vigorous modern cultivar was introduced to the U.S. by Fowler Nurseries (Newcastle, CA) to fill the mid-season ripening gap between the popular Hosui and Shinko varieties. It is particularly valued by growers for its superior resistance to fireblight and pseudomonas compared to the similarly flavored Hosui.

Flavor Profile

The Yoinashi is prized for its crisp, fine-grained flesh and complex sweetness, distinguished by rich, aromatic notes often described as butterscotch, brandy, or brown sugar.

Uses

Primarily enjoyed fresh out of hand to showcase its crisp texture and unique butterscotch flavor, the Yoinashi also serves as an excellent addition to salads, cheese platters, or Asian-style marinades where its natural sweetness shines.
